On Friday 13th July , 2018 a group of 50 young people received certificates of training after they completed a yearlong leadership development programme dubbed ‘Purpose driven Leadership Development Programme (PLDP) under the aegis of the Jesuit Centre for Leadership Development (JCLD) in Lusaka, Zambia.
The PLDP is a response to the need to develop leaders in all spheres of society from business to politics.
The programme draws together 50 college and university youth between the ages of 17-24 years, from Zambian universities and colleges who are highly motivated to cause change in their lives and the lives of others. The main objective of this programme is to develop leadership skills and abilities among the young people, better preparing them for professional, public and community responsibilities.
The key unique feature of the PLDP is that it seeks to go beyond the traditional focus of leadership development that is placed on the development of leadership skills for their own sake. Therefore, the PLDP provides leadership formation to young people not as leaders but as human beings in their beliefs and behaviours, their thoughtfulness and self-respect. In this light, the programme introduces participants to such concepts of self-leadership as purpose, meaning, passion, self-innovation foundation beliefs, morals, values, principles, commitments, promises and relationships.
