The Social Justice and Ecology Secretariat (SJES), an important department in the Jesuit Headquarters in Rome, which was founded as the Jesuit Secretariat for Socio-Economic Development in 1969 by Superior General of the Jesuits then, Fr. Pedro Arrupe will next year (November 2019) commemorate its 50th Anniversary since its establishment. Inspired by the Gospel (Matthew 25: 35-40; Luke 4:18) the Secretariat coordinates and animates Jesuit involvement in the promotion of faith and justice, reconciliation, poverty eradication and the protection of the planet. Yesterday, the Superior General of the Jesuits, Fr. Arturo Sosa launched the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the SJES. Here is his inspiring video message to mark the beginning of the celebrations that will run the course of 2019 up until November 2020. Join the Jesuits in celebrating their commitment to the promotion of faith, justice, poverty eradication, reconciliation and the protection of the earth.
